Narratives, Industries, and Audiences
Please join the Political Economy and the Popular Culture Sections in a panel discussion of the publication East Asian Media Culture in the Age of Digital Platforms: Narratives, Industries, and Audiences, which focuses on the convergence of popular culture and digital platforms in the East Asian context. Through the analytical framework of the platformisation of cultural industries, this volume theoretically and empirically explores how East Asian popular culture and digital platforms have been intertwined and evolved. Analysing how East Asian media narratives, industries, and audiences are integrated into digital platformisation, the book contributes to an enhanced and timely understanding of transnational cultural flows in platform-driven media landscapes of the early 21st century. Panelists will discuss cases of platformisation in South Korea, China, and Japan.
The book editors, Dal Yong Jin and Kyong Yoon, will give an overview of the book and cases in South Korea. Two book authors, Guobin Yang and Susan Noh, will discuss their contributions. Q & As will conclude the panel.
When: Thursday 29 January, 2026 @15h00 UTC / 07h00 Los Angeles / 10h00 New York / 15h00 London / 16h00 Paris / 18h00 Nairobi / 20h30 Kolkata. The event will last 1 hour.
