Welcome and Invitation to VIC CineClub
Dear authors,
I would also like to welcome you to IAMCR 2023! I am sure we will have a lively discussion, both here and face to face in Lyon!
I would also like to take the opportunity to invite you to VIC CineClub, which I am curating. This is a virtual space for interaction, where all members of IAMCR sections and working groups are invited to share their comments on selected pieces of high-quality world cinema. Currently, in homage to France as host country of IAMCR, we are discussing 5 outstanding French films from past and present: “Breathless” (1960), “Muriel” (1963), “Swimming Pool” (2003), “Rust and Bone” (2012) and “Titane” (2021). Do you want to give us your feedback on one of these films? Just send me an e-mail with your comments and become part of our experience!
We are looking forward to reading and hearing from you!

Welcome to Session 7
Dear all,
Dear Authors,
I am Giacomo, PhD student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, and I will be chairing session 7. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you attending this session, which will take place both online through the OCP and in person on July 12th in Lyon.
I wish good luck to all participants with their submissions, and I hope that this online session will foster interesting exchanges and cross-contaminations of ideas. I am so looking forward to meeting most of you in person in two weeks' time.
All the best,
Giacomo
CHALLENGE TO BE ANSWERED
DEAR AUTHORS! I defy you to explain why your submission is part of this session! You have to analyze the title and verify if it is appropriate for your submission and how you can fit your submission inside the title! It is a challenge! Have a nice Sunday answering my question! Dear Denize, thanks for…
Dear Denize, thanks for gracing us with your presence when we did our presentations in Lyon. Much appreciated. I believe it's such a challenge for the reviewers and most especially the VIC team to categorise various papers into suitable themes and topics that would be sensible enough for us to find a common link. Especially when we have a variety of research interests, methods, and topics, so I must really commend the VIC team for carefully reviewing our submissions and for scrupulously finding the common threads in order to offer a seamless panel.
In my case, what I learned from this panel and even the OCP submissions is how the tiresome and formulaic mainstream media can be subverted by way of countervisual approaches. This is what I am also offering my own discussion of rethinking participatory photography in today's digitally mediated landscape of communication, because the method of participatory photography is becoming tiresome and mainstream. In a way, the countervisual approach that I am proposing is a means of adapting it as an online/digitally mediated research method without losing its very essence which we can trace back to Paulo Freire's "conscientização". Hope this brief response contributes to this discussion!
Again, thank you and all the best!
Phase 1 last day!
Dear Authors! tomorrow is the last day of phase 1! Some of you are very active interacting a lot! Congratulations! Some did not interact up to now, so I would like to see at least replies to comments about your papers! VIC needs interactions!
