Dear authors,
I would also like to welcome you to IAMCR 2023! I am sure we will have a lively discussion, both here and face to face in Lyon!
I would also like to take the opportunity to invite you to VIC CineClub, which I am curating. This is a virtual space for interaction, where all members of IAMCR sections and working groups are invited to share their comments on selected pieces of high-quality world cinema. Currently, in homage to France as host country of IAMCR, we are discussing 5 outstanding French films from past and present: “Breathless” (1960), “Muriel” (1963), “Swimming Pool” (2003), “Rust and Bone” (2012) and “Titane” (2021). Do you want to give us your feedback on one of these films? Just send me an e-mail with your comments and become part of our experience!
We are looking forward to reading and hearing from you!
Thomas Wiedemann, vice-chair of VIC (thomas.wiedemann@ifkw.lmu.de)

DEAR AUTHORS! I defy you to explain why your submission is part of this session! You have to analyze the title and verify if it is appropriate for your submission and how you can fit your submission inside the title! It is a challenge! Have a nice Sunday answering my question! Significantly, half of the papers in our section focuses on digital individuals as performers - whether it's Virtual Idols (Feiyang
Chen, Sarenna Bao) or Virtual News Anchor (Menghan Wu and Xinyi Zhou) or even (in my case), Deepfaked reality show celebrities inpersonated by impressionists.
Do you think this is an entirely new phenomenon, or is it part of a history of the use of advanced technologies (such as AI) for visual effects that extend, rather than revolutionise, traditional forms of audiovisual or television shows?
(By th way: I didn't know a thing about Luo TIan Yi! Thank you for the opportunity to discover this Vocaloid and partially measure its impact on audience and pop culture!).
@Sarenna: your paper made me think of the movie S1MO/NE (A. Niccol, USA, 2002), whose central character is a virtual CG actress who ends up to perform a song in a stadium, in front of thousands of fans. The film is considered one of the first attempt at comedic satire.
Is there any manifestation - in social media or elsewhere - of a satirical attitude around this Virtual Idol phenomenon?
