This Working Group aims to examine the development of comic art – including animation, comic books and strips, political and gag cartoons - world-wide in terms of its political sophistication, role in educational and conscientization initiatives, within and outside the mainstream and in terms of the implications of the corporatisation of the media.

erythrina_caffraThe Comic Art Working Group invites submissions for its open sessions at the IAMCR annual conference that will be held in Durban, South Africa, July 15-19, 2012. The overall conference theme is 'South-North Conversations.'

The Comic Art Working Group invites proposals for research papers and panels for the 2013 conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) to be held at Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland from 25-29 June, 2013. The overall conference theme is "Crises, 'Creative Destruction' and the Global Power and Communication Orders".

Please send 100-word proposals on any aspect of comic art (Graphic novels, comic books, comic strips, caricature, political cartoons, gag and humorous drawings, animation) including presenter's name, postal and email addresses, telephone number. Each abstract/submission should be accompanied by the name(s), affiliation, institutional address and email address of (all) author(s).
