Journalism Research and Education - News
The Journalism Research & Education section is IAMCR’s home for critical engagement with journalism. Its principal task is to promote the conduct and dissemination of research into all facets of journalism and journalism education. This ranges from journalism theories to journalism practice as it shapes and is shaped by emerging technologies, markets, and industries. In journalism education the emphasis of inquiry continues to be on teaching, professionalism, journalistic ethics and changes imposed on professional education through changes in technology.
This section endeavours to approach journalism research and education from a global perspective. It seeks to probe paradigms born out of the western dominated discourse which no longer adequately capture the many transitional media systems around the globe. The section strongly encourages collaborative research as a way of bridging these gaps in the research of journalism and journalism education.

'Journalism as a tool for conversation' is not limited to conversations between journalists and their prospective audiences, but also related to high quality conversation for democracy. Many writings address the global prospects for journalism to serve democracy and conversation between the north and south, but less attention has been given to the diversity of the south-south conversations. However, positions are usually too optimistic or too pessimistic with no middle grounds most of the time.
