Emerging Scholars Network Section - Home and News
The aims of the Emerging Scholars Network are to bring young-at-heart scholars together, to create and maintain lines of communication with researchers internationally, to promote universal values of solidarity, peace, equality and respect, to work on new ideas for research and teaching and to create an umbrella for future projects that are related to the study and analysis of communication.

This Network brings young-at-heart scholars together, to create and maintain lines of communication with researchers internationally, to promote universal values of solidarity, peace, equality and respect, to work on new ideas for research and teaching and to create an umbrella for future projects that are related to the study and analysis of communication. At conferences it attracts a wide range of papers that are discussed in an environment aimed at providing mentoring and networks that scholars can continue to build upon in their careers.
Election of ESN officers to be held in Durban
The Emerging Scholars' Section will be electing its officers at its business meeting during IAMCR's congress in Durban. The date and time of the business meeting will be announced prior to the conference and will be included in the final programme of IAMCR 2012. The current officers of the section are: Stefania Milan (has served one four year terms as Co-Chair) and Sara Bannerman (has served one four year term as Co-Chair. The positions of two Co-Chairs are up for election. Stefania Milan is seeking re-election as Co-Chair for a two-year term. One Co-Chair is being sought for a four-year term. Other ad-hoc positions with the ESN will also be available and filled at the meeting.
IAMCR 2013 - Emerging Scholars Network Section - Call for Papers
The Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) welcomes submissions for the Annual Conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) to be held at the Dublin City University on June 25-29, 2013 in Dublin, Ireland.
We invite you to submit abstracts (250- 300 words) of your research papers. We welcome submissions on a variety of topics pertinent to communication and media studies research. We also encourage submissions that address this year’s conference theme Crisis, ‘Creative Destruction’ and the Global Power and Communication Orders. For more information on this year’s conference theme, please refer to the general call for papers. If you are submitting a work in progress, we welcome your submission! Please state that it is a work in progress in your abstract.

The Emerging Scholars Network (ESN) invites you to participate in the 2012 International Congress of the IAMCR to be held on July 15-19, 2012 at the Howard College Campus of the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) in Durban, South Africa.
This year's theme is South North Conversations. We call for general academic papers in Communication and Media Studies as well as papers addressing the concrete conference theme.

Migration and New Media: Transnational Families and Polymedia

How do parents and children care for each other when they are separated because of migration? The way in which transnational families maintain long-distance relationships has been revolutionised by the emergence of new media such as email, instant messaging, social networking sites, webcam and texting. A migrant mother can now call and text her left-behind children several times a day, peruse social networking sites and leave the webcam for 12 hours achieving a sense of co-presence.
