Deadline approaching for IAMCR Urban Communication Prize

urban_communicationIAMCR and the Urban Communication Foundation offer an annual prize for the best paper by an IAMCR member that critically addresses issues in urban communication. This year's prize will be awarded at IAMCR's conference in Durban, South Africa to an original paper which shows scholarly excellence in critical and innovative engagement with issues in urban communication.

The deadline for submission of papers for the 2012 prize is 10 June.

The deadline is synchronized with the deadline for presenting final papers for IAMCR 2012 and thus enables authors with eligible abstracts accepted for the Durban conference to also submit them for consideration by the Urban Communication Prize Committee.

The award comprises a cash prize of USD 1,000, together with a commemorative plaque marking the winner’s achievement. The award will also include a remission/reimbursement of IAMCR 2012 conference registration fees.

If you have submitted an abstract to IAMCR 2012 which has an urban communication element to it, you are encouraged to submit your paper to the urban communication competition.

Prize Criteria

An original paper which shows scholarly excellence in critical and innovative engagement with issues in urban communication. Work might have a historical or contemporary focus, with some preference for work on cities of the global South.  While papers can be theoretical and literature-based, preference will be given to those with an empirical research component.

Rules

  • Papers may be submitted by anyone who is a current paid-up member of IAMCR.
  • Papers are limited to not more than 7,000 words.
  • Papers must be based on work that has not already been published or firmly committed elsewhere

Procedure

  • Papers should be submitted in electronic form to iamcr[at]soas.ac.uk.
  • The closing date for submissions is June 10, 2012.
  • An award will not necessarily be made; decisions will be made by the Panel and are final.
  • If an award is made, the author(s) will be notified about 4 weeks before the conference.
  • The award comprises a cash prize of USD 1,000, together with a commemorative plaque marking the winner’s achievement. The award will also include a remission or reimbursement of IAMCR conference registration fees.

Panel

The prize will be awarded by a panel of four (2 members from the Urban Communication Foundation and 2 from IAMCR's Publications Committee) with the IAMCR President as chair and casting a vote in the event of a tie.
