Sara Bannerman received the IAMCR Prize in Memory of Dallas W. Smythe for her contribution "Berne Buster: Canada and the Berne Convention, 1887-1908" and Cho-wen Chu was awarded the IAMCR Prize in Memory of Herbert I. Schiller for the paper "A comparative Review of Media Globalization in China and Taiwan".
The IAMCR Prize in Memory of Dallas W. Smythe has been awarded to Sara Bannerman for her paper Berne Buster: Canada and the Berne Convention, 1887-1908. The paper was judged by the Smythe IAMCR award panel to be of a high scholarly standard and very much in keeping with the critical perspective that Smythe encouraged throughout his career. Congratulations to Sara, a PhD candidate and past Sessional Lecturer in the School of Journalism and Communication, Carleton University, Canada.
The Schiller prize is awarded to the author of "a paper which combines scholarly excellence with a commitment to developing and extending the critical, innovative and engaged spirit that characterised Herbert Schiller's own contribution to communications analysis. The 2008 Schiller Prize has been awarded to Cho-wen Chu for the paper "A comparative Review of Media Globalization in China and Taiwan". Cho-wen Chu is a PhD student at the University of Manchester.
