Remembering eminent scholars and good friends

This tribute was read by Cees Hamelink, an IAMCR Honorary President, at the start of the Association's general meeting in Cairo on 26 July, 2006.

"In the past year four persons passed away who were very significant contributors to our field and to our association. George Gerbner, Jim Carey, Michael Traber and most recently Roger Silverstone.

For some of us they were eminent scholars whose works we read, studied and used in teaching and research. For some of us they were good friends whose humanity and commitment we were privileged to enjoy. For all of us they will be dearly missed and remembered for a long time to come.

Let us stand a moment in silence for the memories of George Gerbner, Jim Carey, Michael Traber and Roger Silverstone."
