To encourage discussion of the missions of the various IAMCR sections, working groups and emerging themes, IAMCR members are encouraged to look at a discussion document that gathers the descriptions of all the groups together. Jim Halloran, Honorary Past President of IAMCR, died recently after a period of illness.

Jim was an outstanding scholar in our field; an inspiration for IAMCR members for a very long time; and a great friend to many.  He will be missed greatly. 

IAMCR has gathered condolence messages from Jim's friends and colleagues.

IAMCR President Robin Mansell was invited by the President of the UN General Assembly to participate in the Third Informal Thematic Debate on ‘Civilizations and the Challenge for Peace: Obstacles and Opportunities’ in the panel on the ‘Responsibility of the Media’ in New York 10-11 May 2007. She spoke to the topic Crossing Boundaries with New Media.

Mohammad Sahid Ullah, IAMCR member and deputy head of the Law Section won first prize in the World Journalism Education Congress 2007 research paper competition for his paper "Scholarly Turn of Journalism education: redesigning the course curricula in Bangladesh".

IAMCR president Robin Mansell was an editor of the recently released book The Oxford Handbook of Information and Communication Technologies. The handbook sets out an intellectual agenda that examines the implications of ICTs for individuals, organizations, democracy, and the economy.
