In memory of Professor James Halloran

James HalloranJim Halloran, Honorary Past President of IAMCR, died recently after a period of illness.

Jim was an outstanding scholar in our field; an inspiration for IAMCR members for a very long time; and a great friend to many.  He will be missed greatly.

Media Events, Globalization and Cultural Change
Media EventsIAMCR is supporting an international conference at the University of Bremen. Media Events, Globalization and Cultural Change will take place on 6 and 7 July 2007. The conference will focus on:
  • Theorising media events
  • Media events production, representation and consumption
  • The relation of media events to (global) popular culture
  • Media events and the global public sphere
  • Ritual media events and the changing nature of religion
  • The role of digital media (the internet,weblogs etc.) within media events

IAMCR @ the United Nations

UNOIAMCR President Robin Mansell was invited by the President of the UN General Assembly to participate in the Third Informal Thematic Debate on ‘Civilizations and the Challenge for Peace: Obstacles and Opportunities’ in the panel on the ‘Responsibility of the Media’ in New York 10-11 May 2007. She spoke to the topic Crossing Boundaries with New Media.

Oxford Handbook of ICTs

Oxford Handbook of ICTs IAMCR president Robin Mansell was an editor of the recently released book The Oxford Handbook of Information and Communication Technologies.
