The results of the 2008 IAMCR elections were announced during the opening session of the IAMCR Congress on Monday 21 July in Stockholm

Annabelle Sreberny has been elected as the new President of IAMCR. John Downing and Ruth Teer-Tomaselli are the newly elected Vice-Presidents. Ole Prehn was reelected Secretary General and Beate Josephi is the new Treasurer. See below the complete list of newly elected positions.

New book by IAMCR member.

The book originates from teachers' discomfort with youth culture and suggests different ways for thinking and researching cultural and learning conflicts observed in high school classrooms. Faced with the classroom's loss of meaning for both teachers and students, this book tries to open paths for building new meanings starting from listening to the students, their worlds and cultures.

Will Knowledge Workers of the World Unite?

This book focuses on how traditional trade unions and new worker associations, many growing out of social movements, are coming together to address today’s crisis of organized labor. It documents the creative responses of high tech and cultural workers in the mass media, telecommunications, and computer industries.

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Centro de Investigaciones Interdisciplinarias en Ciencias y Humanidades will host the 2009 IAMCR Conference in Mexico City, Mexico July 21-24 2009. The theme for the 2009 conference will be Human Rights and Communication.

The organizers of the 2008 IAMCR Congress held in Stockholm, Sweden July 20-25  have published a photo gallery with pictures taken at various events which took place during the congress.

IAMCR announced the winners of the Smythe and Schiller Awards at its 2008 Congress in Stockholm on 23 July.

Sara Bannerman  received the IAMCR Prize in Memory of Dallas W. Smythe for her contribution "Berne Buster: Canada and the Berne Convention, 1887-1908" and Cho-wen Chu was awarded the IAMCR Prize in Memory of Herbert I. Schiller for the paper "A comparative Review of Media Globalization in China and Taiwan".

IAMCR will hold its General Assembly during its 20-25 July, 2008 Congress in Stockholm, Sweden. The Assembly will be held on 23 July from 16:30 to 19:00.

The results of the postal election of president, officers and international council will be announced at the meeting as will the winners of IAMCR's Schiller and Smythe awards.
