The press release No. 1727 of Unesco on December 23, 1957, begins as follows:
AIERI: Une histoire en quelque mots
Les origines de l’AIERI sont contemporaines de celles de l’Unesco, dont, dès 1946, le « Comité sur les Besoins techniques dans les Communications de Masse » rédige un projet pour la création d’un « Institut International de la Presse et de l’Information » destiné à promouvoir la formation des journalistes et l’étude des problèmes de la presse dans le monde entier.

In 1957, I was president of the Union of Journalists in Istanbul and editor in chief of the Turkish daily paper, Aksam. The Turkish National Commission for UNESCO asked me to take part in the first course of the International Centre for Higher Education in Journalism which had just been created in Strasbourg.

La commission nationale de l’UNESCO pour la Turquie m’a demandé de participer à la première session du Centre International d’Enseignement Supérieur du Journalisme qui venait d’être créé à Strasbourg.
